shampoo.

have you ever noticed how hotel shampoo tends to be ridiculously heavily scented?

i generally take my own shampoo, etc. along when i travel, but occasionally i have to use the hotel stuff.
and it's ALWAYS so smelly.

obviously this observation didn't just materialize on it's own...

tonight, as i was stepping into the shower, i remembered that i'd used up the last of my shampoo last night.
[i have to say i was a tiny bit delighted that i realized this before i was soaking wet. ha.]
i was too lazy to go all the way into j's bathroom to steal some of his, so i went to the bottom drawer in my bathroom where the hotel stash lives.

see, my bathroom used to be my brother's bathroom, and for some unknown reason i still have only one cupboard and one drawer in there even though he moved out over two years ago. anyway. when i "moved in" to the bathroom, i noticed that the bottom drawer was full of all the hotel goodies. and not just the usual stuff like shampoo, conditioner, soap, and lotion. we're taking sewing kits, shower caps, shoe polishers, loofas, and other rare finds. and some of that stuff goes back a while. there is shampoo from the disneyland hotel that i swear is from the 90s. the bottle labels are unmistakably 90s. plus, we've stayed at the grand californian since it opened, so it has to be old.

i really don't understand it, but boy was i thankful for that drawer tonight.
and i can't lie... i've been thankful a few other times.
once when i needed a shower cap, once when i needed a nail file for a scrappy project and couldn't find any of mine, and once when i ran out of q-tips.
hmm. now that i think about it, maybe my brother is on to something...
:]

Ha! I'm glad the hotel stash has worked out for you a few times. I usually will take the little lotion, shampoo, and conditioner but I never use them either. They go in a little plastic bin under the sink in the bathroom.
